Flow measuring devices are instruments for determining the volume flow. The basically generate an electrical signal that is independent of the flow using very different methods and then evaluate and transmit the signal with a transmitter.
The XF flow measuring system uses a method that does not rely on moving parts that are subject to wear. A dynamic orifice plate in the flow channel on which an encapsulated magnet is installed changes its angle depending on the flow speed. The externally arranged transmitter recognises the change in position based on the change of the magnetic field strength and calculates the opening angle and flow speed. It transmits this information as a signal.
Unlike a turbine, the XF flow measuring device is almost entirely wear-free and is resistant to measuring range limit violations that go well beyond normal operating thresholds. In addition, it reacts more directly, because there is no need to accelerate or delay rotating masses.
Signalling takes place with a wide variety of different outputs.
The signal itself can be prepared in different forms: as a switching signal, as a voltage or current signal, as a frequency signal or as a quantity signal. There are also variants available with a display.
The XF flow measuring device is designed for pipelines with a nominal width of 1". All of its key components are freely configurable. This applies to the dimensions of the inlet and outlet-side connections as well as the choice of material: you can choose between plastic, stainless steel and nickel plated brass. As a result, the XF modules can also be conditionally adjusted for measurement in aggressive environments.

The standard plastic version is designed for pressures of up to 16 bar, whereas an optional metal version (stainless steel or nickel plated brass) can withstand pressures of up to 100 bar. A high-temperature variant, in which the electronics are installed separately from the flow space, expands the thermal operating range to temperatures of up to 150 °C. In the process, the flow transmitters cover a wide operating range from 0.4 to 100 l/min.
Boundary parameters can be configured freely in the switch version. Moreover, the different transmitter variants offer different output options, such as limit value switches, meter pulses, and frequency and analogue outputs (0…10 V or 4…20 mA).
